Joining 5 million people
OVO was made up by Brazilian choreographer and director Deborah Colker, the show premiered in 2009, and since then over 5 million people in nearly a hundred cities around the world have already watched it. Now it's the turn of Kazan. By the way, Deborah Colker became the first female director who created a performance for Cirque du Soleil.
Obviously, the nationality of the director dictated a fiery, dynamic style of the show, scenography and, of course, the music, which in the tradition of Cirque du Soleil is written specially for each performance. This time a composer successfully combined the melodies of bossa nova, samba, funk and electronic music. And, again by tradition, on the stage there is a band of the circus, consisting in this case of seven musicians — drummer, bassist, percussionist, guitarist, keyboardist, violinist, trumpeter and, of course, singer with a low mesmerizing voice.
This time, a set designer has created a giant wall-backdrop, where small windows are open, from which the characters of the show look out, at some point on this wall the artists perform most complex elements. In addition, the wall is also a screen for projections that accompany the entire action.
The traditional pride of Cirque du Soleil is the costumes, which are difficult to construct, sewn by hand from fabrics created using the latest technologies. In the costume show there are about a thousand elements of such costumes created by designer Liz Vandal. She managed to unite that seems impossible to unite — broken lines in the style, typical of Pierre Cardin, and the poetics of the Renaissance.
The new show involves about 50 artists and the same number of the circus staff from 20 countries, Cirque du Soleil has long been reserved for the title of one of the most international creative teams in the world. In Russia, OVO travels by 23 trailers with equipment, where they also have their own gym and own kitchen. The show has already been watched by the audience of St. Petersburg, Moscow, and after Kazan the circus troupe goes to Togliatti.
Butterflies, spiders and grasshoppers
OVO is a fantastic planet inhabited by bright insects. Its symbol is the egg, by the way, OVO is translated from Portuguese as ''egg''. This symbol of life will be present in the elements of scenography throughout the performance. To begin with, we will see its giant image on the background of the backdrop, the egg will unexpectedly light up with warm light, and then disappear.
The world of insects will appear in front of us on many sides — cheerful, naughty, anxious, with their relationships, with their heroes and extras. Just like in our human world. Traditionally, the show involves not only athletes, but also clowns, supernumeraries. There are three of them — two clowns, romantic one and quite expressive one, and a clowness, who has become the glory of the performance. A corpulent African-American woman, who, despite her impressive size, tries to flutter a butterfly and is very romantic and sentimental.
Circus acts, as always in Cirque du Soleil shows, forced to think about how endless the possibilities of the human being are. Artists in a split second fly to the top of a very high wall, they soar in the air on the belts, walk on the wire, they show the wonders of coordination, juggling with objects. OVO is a hymn to the human body and boundless courage. Indeed, as it is laid down in the ideology of Cirque du Soleil, ''impossible'' is just a word.
In the final, and it is always very important in Cirque du Soleil, on the stage, as always, the entire cast comes out and everyone gets a share of applause from the ecstatic audience. The singer sings a song with a low voice, the words of which we do not understand, but we understand the essence: the world is beautiful in all its manifestations, we just need to see it and love it. A singer wears a dress of autumn crimson leave colour, the scene is also ''wearing'' the same tone.
In the end — the sound of firecrackers, confetti flying into the air, which also resemble autumn leaves. The time when nature freezes, the inhabitants of the insect kingdom fall asleep to wake up in the spring and enjoy the flowers and smells of thawed earth.
