Poland

Appearances at World Cups

Poland was in the final part of the World Cup first in 1938 and had only one game there. The next was much more successful, though they had to wait for this for 26 years. At the World Cup in 1974, Poland had no defeat in the tournament and only had a mistake with the host of the championship Germany. The Polish repeated this success 8 years later. But this time Italy was on their way who also, by the way, became champions of the world. The last time Poland participated in the world championship was 12 years ago. Adam Nawałka's players are going to Russia as a dark horse that's able both to create a sensation and fail without any reason. In WC qualification matches, Poland scored 25 points, had only one draw and one defeat against their rivals. Strong Denmark and Montenegro kept Poland company. But they couldn't cope with the attacking pressure of the Polish team.

Head coach and best player

Nobody probably doubts who the best player of Poland is. Robert Lewandowski completely occupied this position as well as the role of the main forward of his national team. Bayern's forward has already scored 50 goals for his team, which is a record for his country. He also made another achievement at the world level. Nobody has ever scored 16 goals in the WC qualification. No less is expected from Robert in Russia because Lewandowski will become one of the main stars of the upcoming tournament. But how he will look in tactical formations of the national team depends on the head coach. Though Adam Nawałka is a local specialist but deserves fans' trust more than foreigners. It can't be otherwise if Poland managed to win Germany for the first time in history with this coach and even reached the ¼ finals of the European championship. The successful performance in the WC qualification only strengthened Nawałka's position who is already expected not a worse result at the Russian WC.

  • Preliminary squad: Fabiański – Jędrzejczyk, Glik, Pazdan, Piszczek – Grosicki, Mączyński, Krychowiak, Błaszczykowski, Zieliński – Lewandowski.

Base camp and cities

While choosing the location for the national team, it seems the country's football federation went by the last group stage match. In this case, Sputnik stadium in Sochi is to become the main preparation site for Poland for the main group match against Japan, which will be in Volgograd. The debut match in Russia will be in Moscow where Senegal will become Poland's opponent. Another game will be in Kazan, Poland will meet with Colombia at Kazan Arena.
