The reconstruction at the biological treatment plants (BTP) of Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC that started in mid-January 2016 is continuing. More than 60% of construction works have already been fulfilled at strategically important for the city and the company environment protection object. In addition to the construction of three new facilities that will improve the technology of wastewater treatment, the lining of engineering communications and mounting of electro-cable rack on the site of BTP.
10 contractors are involved in the reconstruction of treatment facilities. They are transited to around-the-clock work to put the updated BTPs into operation by the 50th anniversary of Nizhnekamsk, which is to be held in August.
By mid-July, there are to complete the main construction works. In early July, the contractors will begin the installation of the new 129 units of technological equipment, which is to be completed by 10 August. Then the pre-commissioning stage starts and the commissioning of the facility.
The project for reconstruction of biological wastewater treatment plants includes two phases. In the first stage, there will be three new objects. This is a new hub for mechanical wastewater treatment, consisting of several stages, whereby the primary treatment of urban wastewater from sand and various suspended particles will be more careful.
Another updated object – grit catchers. Previously, the cleaning process was due to the aeration water flows, now they are joined by air flows. They clean the drains from sand more thoroughly, so efficiently. What is needed for the following technological stage — direct biological wastewater treatment.
The third novelty — a mixer, where the urban and industrial effluents will merge together. Before, the mixer was open, emitting unpleasant to the human sense of smell odors. The new mixer is of closed type and the air flows generated in the cleaning process will be collected in a yatagan and be neutralized.
Yatagan is an invention of Russian engineers, designed to neutralize pungent smells. Due to an electric discharge flowing in the air flow, they can eliminate nearly 90% of odors. The figure by the assessment of the environmental experts is on average higher than at similar BTPs operating on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The BTPs of Nizhnekamskneftekhim were commissioned in November 1966 for treatment of municipal and waste water and chemical pollution of water coming from the industrial hub of Nizhnekamsk. Today, the total volume of wastewater coming to biological treatment, 21% are municipal and domestic wastewater, the rest comes from businesses located at the industrial site, including Nizhnekamskneftekhim PJSC – 64,5%, TGC-16 (CHP 1) — 7,5%, TAIF-NK – 2,7%, Nizhnekamskshina — 2,2%, others - 2.1%.
